Autograph Archives 2: The Goalie Gallery B

Here's another snippet of my collection while I work on the next mail post.  I tried to dig up some modern goalies this time around.
Guy Hebert and Dominic Roussel
The first pick of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 1993 expansion draft Guy Hebert is best known as the team’s first #1 goalie and was the last original Duck on the team when he was placed on waivers in 2001.
The peak of Dominic Roussel’s NHL career was a 60 game season with the 93/94 Philly Flyers.  That would be his only year as an NHL starting goalie and after playing only a handful more games with the Flyers he was moved to Winnipeg.  He would go on to play parts of 3 seasons with Anaheim and 1 with Edmonton as a backup goalie.  Joe Pelletier wrote a great store here about the financial and personal difficulties that helped derail Roussel's NHL career
Jani Hurme and Patrick Lalime
Janie Hurme spent 2 years, 00/01 and 01/02, as the Ottawa Senators backup goalie and 1 year, 02/03, as the Florida Panthers backup goalie.
Patrick Lalime’s greatest success came with the Ottawa Senators.  As the team’s starting goalie for a number of years his stay included an All-Star 02/03 season that saw him finish second in wins among NHL goalies with 39 and second in shoutouts with 8.
Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding
The Minnesota Wild starting goalie was runner up for the Vezina in 08/09.  He has won the William Jennings trophy and 2 Olympic medals.
Josh Harding is approaching half a dozen seasons as a Minnesota Wild backup goalie.  He missed the entire 10/11 season when he tore his knee in a preseason game.
Jim Carey and Olaf Kolzig
If you glance through the names on the Vezina trophy one of the only “who’s that guy” engravings are from 1996 when Jim Carey won the Vezina Trophy as Washington Capitals netminder.  He spent 3 years in DC, 2 as a starter and was traded midway through his third season.  The trade partner was Boston and he would only appear in 29 games as a Bruin through parts of 2 years, going from hero to zero awfully quickly.  His last NHL stay was a four game appearance with the 98/99 St. Louis Blues.
Kolzig became the next great goalie in Washington and earned a spot in the 1998 All-Star game.  He not only played his second All-Star game in 2000 but won his first and only Vezina trophy as the leagues best goaltender.  He holds numerous Capitals franchise records as he spent a dozen seasons with the team, most as starting goalie.  His last season in the NHL was his only outside of Washington when he appeared in only 8 games for the 08/09 Tampa Bay Lightning.  He was traded to the Leafs later that year but never played for the team.
Marc Denis and Pascal Leclaire
Marc Denis suffered from playing his best years for bad Columbus teams.  He played a hefty 77 games in 02/03.  After leaving Columbus he dressed for Tampa Bay and Montreal.
The 8th overall pick of the 2001 NHL draft Pascal Leclaire never reached his potential.  His only full season as a starter was for a poor 07/08 Blue Jackets team.  He got a second chance in Ottawa but again riddle by injuries he couldn’t muster up a complete season and hasn’t played in the NHL since 2011.
Chris Osgood and Jim Howard
Chris Osgood’s outstanding career includes 3 Stanley Cups, 2 William M. Jennings Trophies and numerous All-Star appearances.
Runner up for the 09/10 Calder Trophy Jimmy Howard will be going into his fourth season as capable starter for the Detroit Red Wings.
Vesa Toskala and Evgeni Nabokov
After a couple stellar seasons as a San Jose backup Toskala was obtained by the Leafs in hopes that he would further develop.  Instead he could never grasp the #1 position and was moved to the Flames after only 3 years in Toronto.  His last taste of the NHL would be 6 games with those 09/10 Calgary Flames.
A multiple All-Star Evgeni Nabokov won the 2001 Calder Trophy as he took hold of San Jose starting goalie position.  After a decade of success in San Jose Nabokov quickly faded off hockey charts when he signed with the KHL in 2010.  He returned to the NHL as a New York Islander in 11/12.
Brian Boucher and Roman Cechmanek
A career backup Brian Boucher holds one of the most distinguished goalie records of all time when, as a Pheonix Coyote, he went over five straight games, 332 consecutive minutes, without allowing a goal in 03/04.
NHL All-Star Roman Cechmanek was runner up for the 00/01 Vezina when he broke into the league as an experience European.  He won the William Jennings in 02/03.  After 3 seasons in Philly his last NHL job game with the 03/04 LA Kings.  After only 4 years in North America he returned to Europe.
Curtis McElhinney and Jonas Hiller
McElhinney made his NHL debut with the 07/08 Calgary Flames and has since served as a backup for Anaheim, Ottawa and Pheonix.
Jonas Hiller will be going into his fifth season as Anaheim Ducks starter.  He was an 10/11 NHL All-Star and represented Switzerland in the 2010 Olympics.
Tommy Salo and Eric Fichaud
A 2 time All-Star Tommy Salo spent many years in the NHL as starting goalie for the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers.  He led Sweden to a 1994 Olympic gold medal but then took the brunt of the blame for team Sweden’s 2004 Olympic upset to Belarus.
Eric Fichaud saw time between the pipes with the New York Islanders, Nashville Predators, Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens.
Roman Turek and Mika Noronen
Roman Turek has his name engraved on the Jennings twice.  He played a couple seasons in Dallas, St. Louis and ended his career with the Calgary Flames from 01-04.  On a side note UD 04/05 All-World set is one of my favorite underatted sets as you get to see players with some interesting teams from all corners of the globe.
Mike Noronen served as Buffalo Sabres backup from 2001-2006 when he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks.  He only saw time in 4 games with the Canucks and then returned to Europe.
Daren Puppa and Wendell Young
From 1985-1993 Daren Puppa backstopped the Sabres and was runner up to Patrick Roy for the 1990 Vezina.  After a brief stint in Toronto during the 92/93 season he was claimed by the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning and saw time with the team up until 2000.
Wendell Young won two Stanley Cups (1991 and 1992) as a Pittsburgh Penguin backup goalie.
David Aebischer and Kevin Weekes
In 2001 David Aebischer became the first Swiss player to win the Stanley Cup when he served as Patrick Roy’s backup on the Colorado Avalanche.  He was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in 2006 in exchange for Jose Theodore.
Kevin Weekes made his NHL debut with the 97/98 Florida Panthers and would go on to serve time with Vancouver, the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay, Carolina, the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils.  He helped the Hurricanes reach the 2002 Stanley Cup finals when he shared time with Irbe during the playoff run.  He currently an analyst on Hockey Night in Canada.
Martin Prusek and Jamie Storr
From 2002-2004 Martin Prusek saw nearly 40 games as goalie of the Ottawa Senators.  His only other NHL action was with the 05/06 Columbus Blue Jackets.
Jamie Storr was LA first pick, 7th overall, of the 1994 NHL draft.  Trough 9 seasons with the Kings Storr appeared in over 200 games.  His only season out of Los Angeles was a short stay with the 03/04 Carolina Hurricanes.
Dwayne Roloson and Johan Hedberg
Dwayne Roloson broke into the NHL as a Flame in 1996, he then served under Hasek in Buffalo for a couple years before becoming a #1 goalie with the Minnesota Wild in 2001.  He backstopped the Edmonton Oilers to the Stanley Cup final in 2006 but was injured in game 1 of the series and could not return.  He was the NHL’s oldest player last year with the Lightning but had a sub par season.
From 2000-2003 Johan Hedberg saw some significant action with the Pittsgurgh Penguins.  He saw time in Vancouver before the lockout and Dallas after.  From 2006 -2010 he played for the Thrashers and has played the last couple season in New Jersey.  He was Marty’s backup for the Devils when they reached the 2012 Cup finals.
Jason LaBarbera and David Leneveu
Jason LaBarbera was a two time AHL goalie of the year who took years to break into the NHL.  He has spent the last three seasons as Phoenix Coyotes backup.
David Leneveu played 15 games as a rookie for the 05/06 Phoenix Coyotes.  He only appeared in 6 more games for the team the next season and after that his only other NHL action was a period in net for the 10/11 Blue Jackets.
Corey Crawford and Jonathan Bernier
From 2006-2009 Corey Crawford played a handful of NHL games while the Blackhawks developed his talent in the minors.  He emerged as their starting goalie in 10/11 and has had two solid seasons in Chicago.
The 11th overall pick of the 2006 NHL draft Jonathan Bernier won the 11/12 Stanley Cup with the LA Kings as Jonathan Quick’s backup.
Ilya Bryzgalov and Chris Mason
Ilya Bryzgalov won the 2007 Stanley Cup as Anaheim’s backup.  He established himself as a starting goalie with the Phoenix Coyotes and was runner up for the 2010 Vezina.  He has played one of a nine year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Chris Mason has seen time with the Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues and Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets.  He recently resigned with his original NHL team, the Preds.
Ben Bishop and James Reimer
6.07 giant Brian Bishop played a handful of games for the St. Louis Blues from 2008-2011.  He appeared in 10 games for the Ottawa Senators after a midseason trade last season.
A strong finish to the 10/11 season gave James Reimer a three year contract with the Leafs.  He could not keep pace with his rookie year and has seemed mediocre in his second year as a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Matt Hackett and Alexander Salak
The nephew of Jeff Hackett, Matt played 12 games for the 11/12 Minnesota Wild but looks to build on those numbers this season.
Alexander Salak appeared in 2 games for the 2009/10 Florida Panthers.
Vitaly Kolesnik and Pekka Rinne
Vitaly Kolesnik saw time between the pipes in 8 contests for the 05/06 Colorado Avalanche, it was his only season in North America.
Pekka Rinne recently signed a 7 year deal worth $49 million with the Nashville Predators.  He was a 2011 Vezina finalist and was 4th in voting for the Hart Trophy. The former NHL All-Star was also a finalist for the 2012 Vezina.
Matt Climie and Chad Johnson
Matt Climie appeared in 3 game for the Dallas Stars over a couple seasons until being singed by the Phoenix Coyotes in 2010.  He saw time in only one game with the Coyotes.
Chad Johnson has played a half a dozen games for the New York Rangers.
Sean Burke and Jean-Sebastien Aubin
A 3 time NHL All-Star Sean and 2 time Canadian Olympian Sean Burke played over 800 career games.  As a Phoenix Coyote in 2002 he was a Vezina, Hart and Lester B. Pearson Trophy finalist but did not take any home.
From 1999-2004 J.S. Aubin saw significant time in net for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  After the lockout he returned to the NHL in a backup role for the Toronto Maple Leafs and LA Kings.
Antero Niittymaki and Robert Esche
Antero Niitymaki made his NHL debut with the 03/04 Philadelphia Flyers.  For the four seasons following the 04/05 lockout he saw significant ice time in Philly.  He played a season in Tampa and a season in San Jose after leaving the Flyers.  The most memorable moment of his hockey career thus far was being voted the 2006 mens ice hockey Olympic tournament MVP while with team Finland.
Robert Esche saw time in just under 200 NHL games between Philly and Phoenix.  He was a member of the 2006 team USA Olympic team.
Gerald Coleman and Jean-Marc Pelletier
Gerald Coleman appeared in 2 games for the 05/06 Tampa Bay Lightning.  In junior he won a Memorial cup and was a member of one of the best OHL teams ever in the 04/05 London Knights.  In 38 games that season Coleman only registered 2 losses.
Jean-Marc Pelletier's NHL debut was a one game stint with the 98/99 Philadelphia Flyers.  He would also play parts of 6 games with the Phoenix Coyotes from 2002-2004.

Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers and Drew MacIntyre
Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers played the bulk of the season, 48 games, for the 09/10 Edmonton Oilers.  Other than that 1 season in the NHL his only other taste of the league came in the form of a few games with the 08/09 Oilers and a few with the 11/12 Anaheim Ducks.
The first goalie from Prince Edward Island who was born and raised in the province to play in the NHL, Drew MacInyre saw time with the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres.
Jordan Sigalet and Dan LaCosta
Jordan Sigalet bet all the odds when appeared in one game for the 05/06 Boston Bruins.  The Bowling Green State alumni suffered from multiple sclerosis throughout his playing career.
Dan LaCosta was called and appeared in 4 NHL games for the Columbus Blue Jackets.  The Newfoundlander is one of only 3 Labradorians to make the big leagues.
Ray Emery and Peter Budaj
Post 05/06 lockout Ray Emery became Ottawa's #1 goalie but in well publicized events he fell off the face of the earth until re-emerging with the 09/10 Philly Flyers.  He has since spent time in Anaheim and Chicago.
From 2005-2011 Peter Budaj played in well over 200 games as a Colorado Avalanche.  He has most suited up for the Montreal Canadiens.
Hannu Toivonen and Tobias Stephan
A first round pick from the 2002 NHL draft Hannu Toivonen served as Boston's backup goalie in his 05/06 rookie campaign.  He would never develop into the goalie the Bruins had hoped for and left for St. Louis after only 1 more season in Boston.  He only lasted a year in St. Louis before returning to the minors.
Tobias Stephan appeared between the pipes 11 times as a Dallas Star in the NHL.
Adam Berkhoel and Marcel Cousineau
Adam Berkhoel's NHL career lasted only 1 year when he made 9 appearances for the 05/06 Atlanta Thrashers.
Marcel Cousineau saw time in net for the Leafs, Islanders and most recently the LA Kings in 2000.
Trevor Kidd and John Vanbiesbrouck
Trevor Kidd spent 12 years in the NHL, mostly as a capable backup.  He last played for the 03/04 Toronto Maple Leafs.
John Vanbiesbrouck won the 1986 Vezina Trophy as a New York Ranger.  If you account for playoff games then Beezer saw nearly 1000 games of NHL action.  The three time NHL All-Star lead the Florida Panthers all the way to the 1996 Stanley Cup finals.
Tommy Soderstrom and Mike Bales
Tommy Soderstrom appeared in over 150 NHL games as a Philadelphia Flyer and New York Islander in the mid 90s.
Mike Bales made his NHL debut for the 92/93 Boston Bruins.  He also spent a couple years with the Senators organization and played a few games in net for Ottawa.
Mike Dunham and Bob Essensa
The current New York Islanders goalie coach Mike Dunham spent 10 years in the NHL and shared the 1997 William Jennings with Brodeur.
Current Boston Bruins goalie coach Bob Essensa played in nearly 500 NHL games over a dozen seasons with Winnipeg, Detroit, Edmonton, Phoenix, Vancouver and Buffalo.
Jocelyn Thibault and Mikhail Shtalenkov
The 10th overall pick of the 1993 NHL draft Thibault started his career in Quebec.  He followed the franchise to Colorado but was soon traded in the deal that brought Patrick Roy to town.  He could not replace Roy in Montreal but his NHL career would still last 14 seasons. He retired in 2008 as a Buffalo Sabre.
Mikhail Shtakenkov spent five years in Anaheim but also suited up for the Oilers, Coyotes and Panthers.
Steve Shields and Ron Tugnutt
